Professor Jan Servaes will become new Head of the Department of Media and Communictaion, starting on 2 January 2013.  He is currently the UNESCO chair in communication for sustainable social change at the University of Massachusetts in the United States.

A long-term friend of the Department, Professor Servaes has participated in six conferences held under the joint auspices of COM and the Center for Communication Research (CCR).

Professor Lee Chin-Chuan, acting head, praises Professor Servaes as a promiment scholar with extensive experiences and contacts who will take the departments to new heights.
