Professor Li Xigen visits Tsinghua University as a KC Wong Scholar during Oct 18 to Oct 28, 2016. The visit is sponsored by KC Wong Education Foundation.
 
Professor Li will deliver several lectures while at Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication. His lecture on “Understanding and Uncovering Laws of News Diffusion” discusses news diffusion from the social science approach and the theoretical framework of mass communication. He emphasizes that the laws of news diffusion could not be uncovered by any means of speculative thinking and assertion, but by empirical observations and systematic studies using appropriate social science methods.
 
Professor Li will also talk about innovative approaches of new media research. He highlights that the ultimate goal of communication research is knowledge increment. Research on new media should set up a goal to reveal knowledge that brings new insights into media and communication. He also discusses the value of research output and the importance of research output utilized by international scholarly community as literature of the field. He points out that the value of research output could be realized only if the work is cited by other scholars as the foundation of new knowledge production through their research projects.
 
Professor Li will discuss various issues regarding media and communication research with faculty and students of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication. He will also engage in academic exchanges with faculty and students in several other universities in Beijing. He will deliver lectures on media and communication research at Beijing Normal University and Communication University of China during his visit in Beijing as a KC Wong Scholar.
 
The KC Wong Education Foundation was established in 1985 to promote academic exchanges among high education institutions in the region of Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The foundation invites and sponsors scholars from Hong Kong to give lectures in Mainland universities for a period of 7 to 15 days.
