Winson Peng Joins MSU as Tenured Associate Professor

It’s official that Winson Peng, a 2008 graduate from the department’s Ph.D. program, has become an Associate Professor (with Tenure) in the Department of Communication at Michigan State University (MSU).“Communication at MSU is a world leading program, ranked by QS2015 as No. 6 in Communication and Media Studies,” said Prof. Jonathan Zhu who supervised Peng’s doctoral study. “We’re very proud of his achievements, which showcases the quality and competitiveness of our Ph.D. program worldwide.”

 

After graduation from CityU, Dr. Peng worked as a faculty member at Macau University of Science and Technology and Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, respectively, before joining MSU. He has published 16 articles in SCI/SSCI-indexed journals, with 12 in Q1 journals in communication (e.g., Communication Research, New Media & Society), information science and library science (e.g., Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, Scientometrics), computer science (i.e., IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics), and medical informatics (i.e., International Journal of Medical Informatics).

He cofounded, with Jonathan Zhu, the Interest Group on Computational Methods within International Communication Association and has recently been elected the inaugural Chair of the Group.
