Two CityU PhD students won research paper awards at the 8^th Postgraduate Student Symposium of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium.

The 8^th Postgraduate Student Symposium of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium was held at Communication University of China in Beijing during October 28-29, 2016. Two PhD students and three MA graduates from the Department of Media and Communication, City University of Hong Kong presented papers at the symposium. The selected papers based on anonymous review covered a broad range of topics such as new media use varied in censorship control, effects of online community commitment on brand loyalty, and factors influencing digital copyright produce purchase. These topics reflect the diversity of academic inquiry and approaches, and represent the quality of research of the graduate students of the department. Wu Yi’s paper “Converge or Diverge? Public Opinion Polarization in Hong Kong” and Xia Chuanli’s paper “From Media to Democracy: The Role of Mainstream and Alternative Media in Political Participation” won the Excellent Paper Awards.

The Postgraduate Symposium of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium is a forum for presenting and discussing journalism and communication research among the graduate students from the universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It is one of the major joint activities of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium, which was found in March 2009 by four universities: Communication University of China, City University of Hong Kong, Fudan University, and National Taiwan University.
 
The 1^st Postgraduate Student Symposium of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium was held at City University of Hong Kong in November 2009. The 9^th Postgraduate Student Symposium of the Chinese Journalism and Communication Consortium will be held in October 2017 at one of the member universities.
