The Department of Media and Communication hosted the 2013 Asian Symposium of Doctoral Students in Communication (ASDSC2013) on Nov 18. Twenty five papers, selected based a competitive process, were presented by doctoral students from six universities in Asia, including City University of Hong Kong, Communication University of China in Beijing, Fudan University in Shanghai, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, National Taiwan University in Taipei, and Yonsei University in Seoul. The papers cover a variety of issues in offline and online contexts, with social media being the most popular topic (see the word cloud).
Chengjun Wang of the Department won the First-place Prize of the Student Paper Competition (English-language Track) for his paper on Information Diffusion on Microblogs: Testing Threshold Hypothesis of Interpersonal Effects. He also received a First-place Prize of the Student Paper Competition from the Symposium in Seoul in 2012.
